Chilli Paneer ( Paneer chilli, Chilli paneer dry, Cottage cheese with Chinese sauces )

Chilli paneer is a very popular Indo-Chinese recipe and a famous vegetarian dish. This dish is basically a stir fry of deep fried cottage cheese cubes, onions, garlic and delicious sauces. It can be played the role of both starter the main course.

  • Paneer 300 grams (cut into medium sized cubes)
  • Ginger 2 inch (finely chopped)
  • Garlic 2-3 cloves (finely chopped)
  • Green chilli 1-2 (slitted)
  • Spring onion 2 (finely chopped)
  • Onion 1 (cubed)
  • Green capsicum 1 small sized (cubed)
  • Red capsicum 1 small sized (cubed)
  • Corn flour 3 tablespons
  • Black pepper 2 teaspoons
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar 1 teaspoon
  • Chilli sauce 1 ½ teaspoons
  • Tomato sauce 3 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce 1 ½ teaspoons
  • Water 1 cup



Fry the paneer cubes

Take a big bowl and place the paneer cubes in it. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon black pepper and some salt and mix well. Now add 1 tablespoon of corn flour in it. coat the paneer cubes with corn flour properly. Then heat some oil in a pan. Add the coated paneer cubes in the oil when it turns hot. Fry them on both the sides till they become nice golden in colour. Drain them on absorbent paper.

Make a corn flour-water mixture

Take the remaining corn flour and add it with ½ cup of water in a bowl and mix it. Keep it aside.

Prepare the gravy

Now heat some oil in a kadai. When the oil turns hot, add chopped ginger, garlic,chilli and spring onions. Saute them on high flame for 40 seconds. Then add cubed onions, green and red capsicums. Saute for half a minute. Then add chilli sauce, tomato sauce and soy sauce and mix well. Now add sugar, salt and the corn flour-water mixture and stir it. Cook on high heat stirring continuously until the sauce thickens.

Add the fried paneer into the sauce

When the chilli sauce gets its consistency, add the fried the paneer and some black pepper in it. mix well.

Better serve with roti, paratha or naan

Now the chilli paneer dish is ready to serve. Garnish it with chopped spring onion or freshly chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot along with naan or roti or paratha.
