Fish Cutlet

Fish Cutlet is a simple and easy Indian recipe. It is one of the best popular evening snacks. It can also be used as a good starter. Fish cutlet is also known as Fish Chop, Fish Croquette, Fish Cake and Fish Patties. There are different ways to make fish cutlets. But this is the simplest way to prepare the dish easily at home.

  • Fish with fewer bones 500 grams
  • Garlic paste 1 tablespoon
  • Onion paste 1 tablespoon
  • Red chili powder 1 teaspoon
  • Chopped green chili 2 teaspoons
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder 2 teaspoons
  • Potato 2 pcs (boiled, peeled and smashed)
  • Chopped coriander leaves 2 teaspoons
  • Cumin seeds ½ tablespoon
  • Egg 4 pcs
  • Biscuit crumbs as needed
  • Oil as needed



Marinate the fish

Wash the fish properly and add 2 teaspoons of turmeric and 2 teaspoons of salt and leave it to marinate for 10 minutes.

Fry the fish and add garlic- onion paste and green chili

Now heat some oil in a Kadai and when the oil turns hot add the cumin seeds. Then add the fish pieces to fry. After frying on the both sides, add garlic paste, onion paste, green chili and sauté for 1-2 minutes and turn off the flame and let it cool down.

Separate bones from the fish and add boiled potato and coriander leaves

When the fish turns cool, separate the bones from fish and blend it smoothly. Now add the boiled potato and freshly chopped coriander leaves with the fish and give a good mix. Now add salt to the mixture and mix well. Do not apply water in this mixture because it should be tight to hold the shape of a cutlet.

Make the patties and fry them

Now using your hands, make small patties from the mixture. In a small bowl beat an egg, add a little salt and thereby make the batter. Now dip the patties in this batter and then immediately in the bread crumbs and keep it aside for 15 minutes. Pat the cutlets to bind the crumbs well. These patties are ready to fry. So heat oil in a pan and deep fry the patties till it becomes golden in colour.

Serve hot with ketchup or chutney

Now the fish cutlets are ready to serve. Serve hot with ketchup or chutney.
