Matar Paneer is a popular vegetarian North-Indian dish consisting of peas and paneer in a tomato based sauce, spiced with garam masala. Paneer is actually a very popular ingredient in North-Indian vegetarian dishes. Different paneer dishes like Palak Paneer, Paneer Butter Masala etc. are so much popular. One such dish is Matar Paneer. It’s really an easy and tasty dish and good for lunch or dinner.

• Paneer 400 gms ( cut into medium size cubes)
• Peas 2 cups
• Tomatoes 3 medium size
• Onion 1 or 2 medium size (roughly chopped)
• Ginger ½ inch (roughly chopped)
• Garlic 3 pcs (roughly chopped)
• Green chillies 2-3 (choped)
• Cashew nuts 10 pcs
• Cinnamon stick ½ inch
• Cumin seeds 1teaspoon
• Bay leaves 2
• Turmeric powder 1/2teaspoon
• Garam masala ½ teaspoon
• Red chili powder 1 teaspoon
• Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
• Salt as needed
• Sugar ½ teaspoon
• Oil as needed
• Fresh cream 1 tablespoon
• Coriander leaves for garnishing
Fry the panner cubes
Heat some oil in a pan. Fry the paneer cubes till golden brown and keep it aside.
Prepare the masala paste
To make the masala paste of matar paneer, blend tomatoes along with onion, ginger, garlic, green chillies and cashew nuts in a grinder.
Cook the masala paste and add the peas
Now heat oil in a kadai, add the cumin seeds and saute it till they splutter. Now add cinnamon and bay leaves in it. Stir-fry for a few seconds. Now add the masala paste and stir it. You can cover it partly with a lid. Sauté it for 10 minutes in a low heat. When the oil separates from the paste, add the dry spices- turmeric powder, garam masala, coriander powder and red chilli powder and stir well for a few minutes. Then add the green peas and ¼ cup of water in it.
Add the fried paneer cubes and fresh cream
Cook it on medium heat and cover the kadai with a lead. When the peas are tender and the gravy reached to its proper consistency, add some salt and sugar in it and mix well. Then add the fried paneer cubes and give a nice mix. Now add the fresh cream and mix it well and switch off the flame.
Better serve with paratha, naan or roti
Now the Matar Paneer is ready. Garnish it with freshly chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with roti, naan or paratha.
