Mutton Onion Dry

Mutton onion dry is a tasty dry side dish, which is a popular mutton dish in restaurants. It is very spicy and tasty. It can also be served as a good starter. Except the gravy dishes like mutton masala, mutton rogan josh; the dry dishes like mutton pepper dry, mutton chilli dry, mutton onion dry are also very popular. This dish is really easy to prepare and at the same time too much tasty.

  • Mutton 500 grams ( perfectly washed and cut into ½ inch pieces)
  • Onion 3 ( large size, finely chopped)
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 ½ tablespoons
  • Lemon juice 2 teaspoons
  • Oil as needed
  • Red chilli powder 2 teaspoons
  • Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder 2 tablespoons
  • Pepper powder 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder 1 ½ teaspoons
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves 1 tablespoon
  • Fennel seeds ½ teaspoon
  • Green chilli 2 (slit)



Marinate the mutton pieces

Take a big bowl and there add 1 teaspoon red chilli powder, ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon coriander powder, pepper powder, lemon juice and salt. Mix all the ingredients properly. Add little water to make a paste. Now add the mutton pieces into it and mix well. Refrigerate it for 30 minutes.

Pressure cook the mutton

Heat some oil in a pressure cooker. Add fennel seeds, green chilli and curry leaves when the oil turns hot. Sauté it for ½ minute. Then add the ginger garlic paste and sauté well. When the colour becomes brown, add in the marinated mutton pieces. Sauté well for few minutes. Then cover it and cook well in low flame without adding any water for 5-6 whistle. Then switch off the flame and let the pressure release naturally.

Fry the onions

In a pan, heat some oil. Add the finely chopped onions and some curry leaves when the oil turns hot. Add one pinch salt in it. Fry them until they become golden in colour. Keep it aside.

Prepare the dry mutton

Pour all the contents of the cooker in the pan and cook in medium flame until the mutton becomes dry. When it turns dry, add the fried onion and curry leaves and mix gently. Now the dish is ready. Serve hot.
