Paneer posto is a very popular Bengali dish. Posto means poppy seed. Actually different type of dishes using poppy seed is very popular among Bengalis, like Alu posto (Potato with poppy seed), Rui posto (Ruhu fish with Poppy seed) etc. However, this dish is very easy to prepare. Here I am using potato along with paneer, but if you don’t like potato then you can simply avoid it.
Prep Time 1 hour 15 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
• Paneer 250 gms
• Potato 2 medium size(sliced)
• Posto/Poppy seed 50 gms
• Green chillies 3-4
• Salt to taste
• Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
• Oil as needed
• Onion 2 large size (finely chopped)
• Sugar 1 teaspoon
Make the posto-green chili paste
Soak the poppy seeds or posto in water for 1-2 hrs. Put the green chilies, posto and some water in the blender and make a thick paste and keep it aside.
Cut the paneer in cubes and fry them lightly
Now cut the paneer in small cubes. Heat some oil in a pan and fry the paneer cubes lightly. Sprinkle little salt on the paneer cubs while frying and set it aside.
Fry the chopped onions
Now in the same pan fry the chopped onions till it become golden. Then keep it aside.
Fry the potatoes and add paneer, onions and posto-green chili paste
Heat some oil in a kadai and add the cumin seeds. When they turn brown add the potatoes. Let them be golden in colour. Now add salt and the fried paneer and some water. Make the water boil for 5 minutes. Let the potato get cooked. Then add the posto-green chili paste, the fried onions and sugar. Now it’s ready to serve.
Better serve with rice or paratha or naan
Serve hot with rice or paratha or naan.
