Tandoori Chicken

Tandoori Chicken as a dish originated in Punjab and Punjabi food is wholesome and full of rustic flavour. It consists of roasted chicken prepared with yogurt and spices. The name comes from the type of cylindrical clay oven, tandoor, in which it was traditionally prepared. Today its a popular chicken starter in restaurants. The popularity of Tanduri Chicken led to many other dishes, such as Chicken Tikka, Chiken Tikka Masala , commonly found in menus in Indian restaurants all over the world.

Ingredients:

  • Chicken 12 pieces(6 pc drumsticks and 6 pc boneless or bone-in thighs, 4 breast halves and 4 leg quarters, etc.)
  • Yogurt 1 cup
  • Lemon Juice 3 tablespoons
  • Chilly Powder 2 teaspoons
  • Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder  1 teaspoon
  • Pepper powder  1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder  1/4 teaspoon
  • Garam masala 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Ginger paste 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic paste 2 tablespoons
  • Olive Oil 3 tablespoons
  • Chat masala 1/2 teaspoon

Method:

Apply lemon juice, salt and chilly powder 

Prick the washed chicken pieces all over with a fork and place them in a large bowl. Apply a mixture of 1 teaspoon chilly powder, salt and 1 tablespoon lemon juice over the chicken and set aside for half an hour.

Marinate the chicken

For marinade take the yogurt in a separate bowl along with remaining red chilly powder, salt, ginger garlic paste, garam masala, turmeric powder, pepper powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, remaining lemon juice and 2 tablespoons olive oil. Mix all the ingredients properly and rub the mixture over the chicken and marinate it for three to four hours in the refrigerator. Try to press in some of the marinade into the slits.

Cook the chicken in oven

Now cook the chicken in a moderately hot tandoor or in a preheated oven at 200°C/400°F/Gas Mark 6 for 10 to 12 minutes, or until almost done. Then baste the chicken with a little oil and cook for another four minutes. Remove it from the oven and set aside.

Garnishing with lemon slices and onion rings

Sprinkle some chaat masala powder and serve it with lemon slice and onion rings
